• Every Coffee bean has a story

Finca San Antonio is a farm managed by a fifth generation coffee-producer family. The Bosch family has been producing coffee at this farm for three generations. Just a 45-minute drive from Guatemala City, the farm is located in Fraijanes, Guatemala, one of the eight coffee producing regions acknowledged by The National Coffee Association (Asociación Nacional delCafé - Anacafé) in Guatemala.

  • Planted at 1650-1750 meters above sea level, the coffee grown in Finca San Antonio is harvested at one of the most elevated farms of its region. The San Antonio plantation is managed traditionally, meaning its coffee is shade grown under a canopy of trees, and all agricultural procedures are achieved entirely by hand. In an initiative to produce non-GMO coffee and foster environmental responsibility, the farm has transitioned into utilizing the least amount of agrochemicals possible throughout its years of operation.

  • Furthermore, herbicide use has been completely eliminated from the plantation’s practices

since 2014. The plantation produces eight different varieties of organic coffee: Pache, Caturra, Yellow Catuaí, Tequisic, Catisic, Catimor and, soon, Pacamara. The farm’s infrastructure is capable of processing coffee in three different methods: washed, semi-washed and natural. In the past, Finca San Antonio has sold off most of its harvest in cherry form.

  • Single state sourcing means that the coffee comes only from one farm. Finca San Antonio is able to share detailed information about the agricultural management and harvest because they control the whole process.

  • The San Antonio fully washed coffee offers a very sweet profile, with chocolate and honey notes. Fraijanes region has a very characteristic acidity, and this coffee is no exception, the orange and mandarin notes showcase a bright acidity that combines perfectly with its sweetness.

  • Sustainability is the core for Finca San Antonio’s agricultural management, this is why it has been herbicide and insecticide free since 2014. All the coffee produced in this farm is grown in an agroforestry model that ensures water, flora and fauna conservation.

  • With an elevation ranging from 5,250 to 5,750 feet above sea level, Finca San Antonio stands in one of the highest points of Fraijanes region. This elevation not only qualifies the coffee as the best quality in Guatemala, Strictly Hard Bean (SHB), but also ensures that it is one of the finest coffees in the world.

  • Variety matters! This is why Finca San Antonio only grows Arabica coffee, most of the varieties grown in the farm are traditional ones, at the farm you will find pache, caturra, tekisic and yellow catuaí.

  • Harvesting is a critical point for coffee quality, Finca San Antonio is proud to have a team of local harvesters that come back year after year, this ensures that only the ripest cherries are picked. This is the team that harvested your delicious cup of coffee: Irma Rodríguez, Blanca López, Magaly, Guerra, Lesly Urias, María Juan, Estela Ailon, Catarina Juan, Eulalia Pedro, Mateo Francisco, Carmen Mateo, Catarina Lorenzo, Domingo Juan, Juana Domingo, Marco Tulio and Guadalupe Diego.

Sustainable Efforts

Finca San Antonio employs a variety of sustainable initiatives to maintain the integrity of the biodiversity of the farm and soil health.  Beyond using the minimum amount of fertilizers to protect and serve the coffee plants, the farm is focused on agroforestry, meaning it has a variety of plants, all of which have a symbiotic relationship to serve each-other, the animals and micronutrients needed for the longterm health of the soil and quality of coffee.

TheOne Kafé Wet Mill

One of the main benefits in fully washed coffee is allowing for clarity in the bean’s aroma and vibrancy in the coffee’s taste notes. Because of San Antonio’s washing procedure, we are able to ensure higher consistency. Finca San Antonio is the cornerstone of the partnership between TheOne Kafe and United Rescue Alliance.  With the Bosch family as 5th generation producers and Ricardo Chacón as head agronomist, we view this farm as an opportunity to scale new technologies and innovative approaches to coffee production

With this in mind, TheOne Kafé took a significant step forward in financing a new wet mill on the farm to allow the Fraijanes producers to engineer more value in their coffee. This is accomplished by utilizing cutting-edge technology in a  traditional milling method and turning the processing system more energy and water-efficient.
